Comparative Costs

(18th-19th century)

A feature of the comparative advantage principle developed by English economists Robert Torrens (1780-1864) and David Ricardo (1772-1823).

Comparative costs postulate that trade is beneficial between countries even if one country is more efficient in every sector because of the difference in internal production costs.

David Ricardo used the example of English and Portuguese products.
