(1) in accounting. An asset recorded in the balance sheet of a firm as capital, such as land, buildings, machinery, or equipment.
(2) in financial economics. Assets of a firm that are held for not resale but use in production (as in the accounting meaning of the term), plus financial assets, such as stocks or bonds.
